Meet our Summer Intern, Alyssa!

We are happy to introduce Alyssa, our 2021 summer intern at the Children’s Museum of St. Tammany. She is a native of Abita Springs and graduated from The University of Alabama in 2019 with a Bachelor of Art in Dance, with a minor in Public Relations. She is continuing her education and is currently attending the University of Kentucky, working towards a Master's in Arts Administration, and is scheduled to graduate in 2022.

As part of her master’s program, Alyssa sought an opportunity with the Children’s Museum of St. Tammany through our internship program to gain experience in arts administration with insight into non-profit work, public relations, and marketing.  She has experienced the workings of a non-profit organization, ranging from day-to-day operations, event planning to big-picture tactics.

“I have definitely learned so much “back of the house” duties that affect the big picture of the organization. There are events, fundraising, donor/sponsor relationships, directories, day-to-day operations and so much more that I’ve realized goes into staying on top of the Children’s Museum,” says Alyssa.

Even more so, she has developed an understanding and admiration to what goes on behind the scenes of a children’s museum.  She continued, “The way the Children’s Museum offers a place of play, education and art to the children of the community is so inspiring. They provide such a great environment for families to come together and have an enjoyable experience whether visiting the museum or attending one of their events. I had an amazing experience at CMST! The people are great and put so much work and dedication into making the museum run as well as it does.”

She is very appreciative of her internship and knows that this experience has provided her with a new set of skills needed for her future career.

Aside from her studies, Alyssa is employed as a manager for a local health club and as a dance teacher at a local dance studio.

Thank you, Alyssa, for your gift of time, talent, and energy to CMST!  We look forward to your many successes ahead!
