ASTRO CAMP® is a challenging, science-based camp designed to:
- Inspire future generations to learn about space explorations and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics developing pathways to STEM careers.
- Present nationally aligned math and science principles through fun, hands-on activities, teaching teams of campers to work together to complete missions through ASTRO CAMP® methodology.
- Spark student’s interest in learning the basics of engineering, rocketry, robotics, and supporting the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) alignments while having fun.
ASTRO CAMP sessions are aligned with NASA's current themes: Flight, Space Technology, Earth/Solar System, Humans in Space, and Mission Moon to Mars.
Campers can choose from nine unique weeks of themed activities:
Week 1: Astronaut Boot Camp– Have you ever wondered what it takes to be an astronaut? Campers will train like an astronaut and engage in an interactive STEAM curriculum designed by NASA Astro Camp. They will have the opportunity to engage with professionals in our area and learn about different types of STEM careers.
Week 2: Life in Space– What does it take to live in space? Campers will explore the similarities and differences of life in space vs. life on Earth and engage in an interactive STEAM curriculum designed by NASA Astro Camp. They will have the opportunity to meet and learn from experts from NASA.
Week 3: Exploring Ecosystems– Is long-term life in space possible for humans? Learn about the different factors that determine if life is sustainable in space and collaborate with other campers to problem solve and design innovative plans for living in space. Campers will engage in an interactive STEAM curriculum designed by NASA Astro Camp.
Week 4: Astro Artists–Explore the beauty of space through art! Campers will engage in an interactive STEAM curriculum with art projects designed by NASA Astro Camp and work with local artists to explore different types of media and art styles.
Week 5: Mission Control– Explore real-world STEM applications and learn about the technology and the people that direct missions in space. Campers will have the opportunity to engage in an interactive STEAM curriculum designed by NASA Astro Camp.
Week 6: Wonders of the Galaxy– Delve into the depths of the universe and explore its wonders firsthand. Engage in hands-on STEAM activities developed by NASA Astro Camp and develop a deeper appreciation for the vastness and beauty of the cosmos by exploring stars and planets in a fun and innovative way!
Week 7: Journey Through the Universe– Foster your child’s curiosity and wonder about our Universe, and learn about the cutting-edge technology that is allowing us to understand our place in the cosmos. Campers will have the opportunity to engage in an interactive STEAM curriculum designed by NASA Astro Camp.
Week 8: Above and Beyond– Learn about the technology that propels us above and beyond to explore life on other planets. Engage in hands-on activities like rocket building, learn how the Mars Rover helps us to explore life on other planets, build and test a helicopter, and engage in an interactive STEAM curriculum designed by NASA Astro Camp.
Week 9: Exploring Earth– Explore the Blue Planet and all the beauty and mystery that our own planet offers. What has space exploration taught us about our own backyard? Campers will engage in an interactive STEAM curriculum designed by NASA Astro Camp.
