National Search for Exhibit Design Team

July 01, 2009

Request for Qualifications (RFQ) were sent to fourteen exhibit design firms across the country seeking qualified Exhibit and Interpretive Designers interested in working on Preliminary Design Concepts for the new 20,000 square foot Children’s Museum.  Firms of interest were identified based on design theories as it pertains to educational development, aesthetics, portfolio, staff expertise, types/sizes of exhibits previously designed, museum management experience and regional proximity.

Of the fourteen firms selected for the RFQ, responses were received from ten firms which were then narrowed down to five.  Next steps included sending out Request for Proposals (RFP) to five firms to get more information on their fees and services.  The proposals are to include (but are not limited to) exterior designs and site sketches, interior and exterior exhibit spaces and concepts, art and interpretive features, floor plans and sections, virtual tour narratives of the design, narratives of overall concept and unique exhibits or themes.  Interviews were scheduled with these five design firms in 2010 to choose the exhibit designer for the Museum.  The design firm was chosen in 2011.
