CMST WELCOMES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

April 06, 2017

All-Volunteer Project Makes First Paid Hires as it Nears Opening

Madisonville native Amy Gassen Fresh has been named Executive Director of the Children’s Museum of St. Tammany (CMST).   On track to open at its interim location at Kids Town later this spring, CMST has been an exclusively volunteer-based project since its inception.  The 501c(3) is managed by a 15 member board of trustees and supported by an advisory board.

“I’m extremely proud of the work we have done to bring CMST to this point as a completely volunteer-based project,” remarked Board President Lisa Barnett. “I am equally excited to be welcoming Amy to the CMST family because, truly, that’s what it is. The countless volunteers who have steered and grown this project over the years are committed in a way that is awe-inspiring and contagious. Amy stepped into her role in late March and has been going 100 mph since.”

Fresh is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with a focus in marketing and child development. She has an extensive business background in the banking industry as well as teaching experience to draw upon for her new role. As executive director, Fresh will manage the business operation of the museum and its staff as well as oversee educational programming. Her role will also include fundraising and development as the museum continues to work towards its permanent location within the parish’s planned Cultural Arts District.

“The opportunity to be at the helm of a project of this magnitude, that I can put my footprint on, is incredibly exciting,” remarked Fresh. “This would not be possible without the vision of some amazing leaders in our community and I’m honored to guide CMST through its opening and into the future.”

CMST has also made a second hire — Education & Programming Coordinator Niki Lagasse Butler. Also a Northshore native and graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University, Butler will be responsible for developing educational programming and special events for the museum. With more than 17 years of early childhood education experience coupled with a strong business marketing background, she has hit the ground running in expanding upon the efforts of the volunteer-based CMST Education Team which has laid a rich groundwork of unique, curriculum-based, interactive play experiences for the children of the Northshore.
